This is something I wrote a long time ago.
***
I’m dancing the dance of summers end, feeling the wind blow closer, as it brushes my skin. I stand tall against the creeping time when all will fall. What has life to offer to a broken man? An empty shell of an existence wasted and coming to pass. Clutching for the dreams that never shall be, a flourish of regret at the acknowledgement of worthlessness.
Who shall remember the forgotten, when remembrance is not shared? An individual, a sole being, lost in the countless numbers of the world. Acceptance and accomplishment met through freedom of achieving life’s goals that shall never be.
The autumn breeze descends to touch my soul, life crisps and dies from within. The verve drains as the tiredness sets. Ambition falls to the unyielding ground to be trampled upon. The fruits of my labour witnessed by none and wasted to all.
The chill of winter bites deep to my bone, loneliness and despair creep through my mind. Am I dead? Am I that worthless wreck that served no purpose? My skin has grown cold and my eyes frozen over so that I can not see the world around me. Life passes by, not knowing of my existence.
And what of spring? It should call for a change; bring new life to those that reap it to those that yearn for the warmth in their heart. To those it can bring life, but to those already lost it only brings misery. A calling of awakening for those that prosper, a call for mockery to those who have no hope or ambitions.
Will I still be standing tall when the last stand strong? Will I be there at the day of reckoning, knowing my ambitions past are accomplished? Was my life a waste?

It has been over a week now since my last blog post, and so far I have done little to no creative work. I have thought of some ideas though, both to add to my new mainstream novel idea, still without a name, and more kid’s stories, and as you might guess playing along the fantasy route.
I have been thinking, that perhaps I need, and strangely desire motivation originating from other people. I long to be able to sit with my laptop looking out at the world and be inspired with wondrous ideas that would soon be keyed in to become stories and tales that others would long to read. But I find myself within a box; the sides are all but too tall and thick that I can’t physically burst myself out. However there is no roof to this box, so I can see the way out, it is just that I can not do it by myself.
Perhaps the unpacking instructions are on the outside, and all I have to do is wait for someone to come along read the labelling on the outside packaging and shout in the instructions. Perhaps I’d be lucky enough to be sitting in there one day when a master ropes man will come along with specific training for and the intentions of rescuing any poor soles trapped in huge roofless boxes.
If only I could swim well enough I could wait for a large gush of water to come along and make the cardboard soggy, just enough to push through, that’s all I would need. But that would leave a right awful mess; I’d have to clear it all up in the end.
To be honest I don’t know what the best solution would be, even if there is one. Though like always i will keep on waiting and looking and perhaps the solution will come to me.
If you know of anyway to help, drop me a comment.

I have been trying to become more focused on my writing, and eager to check over The Elderine Stone, so that I can make final changes before I actually do anything with it. I have considered looking for an agent in Northern Ireland which might be a nice thing, I’d appreciate the closeness, and the idea of lunch meets, however I am not sure how true an idea of an agent I have is. Well I am going to prepare some work and send it off to one particular agent today.
In the mean time here is a short poem, about the gift of love. Updated the poetry page too.
A Given Gift
Handed down by those strong hands,
A gift, a life,
Full of loving emotion.
Teaching, guiding
Always smiling.
Never-ending devotion.

Look into the distance,
For a love so brightly shining.
In amidst the chaos,
For a soul who is still calling.
Never ending love,
In a world yet still evolving.
Grasping for the closeness
Grasping for your love.
Hear the words, you’re speaking,
Dream on dream come true.
Never ending love you give
Holding onto you.

I blink an eye, to wake to day,
As visions from a slumber,
Merge, dance, then fade away.
The fast approach of a familiar light
A beacon, a burning torch,
The signal of a winning fight.
The beast of dreams has lost his hold
He grasps and clutches,
His loss. His precious mould.
Awake, alive, clearing sight,
I’m free from demons,
Now, for awhile, until tonight.

Well, firstly I’d like to say hello to anyone that comes across my new medium for writing. I have long thought about having more of a presence on the web, and it wasn’t until I read an article in The Writer’s Handbook 2009 that I realised how potentially beneficial having a blog could be.
I suppose it would be customary to have an introduction on a first meet basis, and for many of you who may not know me and still curious enough to continue, reading some strangers writing may have no interest to you at all, but at least you have got this far. As the very original name of my blog predicts my name is Alan. Basic background would be that I am male, currently 24, and live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I see myself first as an aspiring writer, with a keen interest in children’s and teen fiction but have recently dabbled in mainstream fiction. Secondly I have a full time job in recruitment as an advisor, and I’m in the process of studying a masters in Human Resource Management.
Concerning my writing, I have succeeded in writing a full length novel,’The Elderine Stone’ which was much to my own amazement, but in my opinion is by no means finished, and still unpublished. There are elements that I wish to update, alter or remove. I will occasionally add updates here about it, or teasers for anyone interested. That is when I find the motivation to do these things! The Elderine Stone, tells the tale of a boy called Jason who is magically warped into a fantasy world, only to discover that he, along with a wizard apprentice called Emily, must uncover his true identity, the reason why he was brought to this strange land, and to put an end to the Dark Lady who is controlling the lands to the North.
I have also written two short children’s stories, under the name of ‘Captain Silverspoons’ an early edition can be read at Bab books. On online reading resource for children.
As I mentioned earlier, I have started to write a more mainstream piece, about Janet, an extremely focused business woman, who has put her career first, aiming to succeed, and succeeding at doing so. that is until her close friend frank asks her to join her on a worldwide trip, only to disappear leaving a note behind. A story of mystery and a mysterious man who keeps accidentally appearing in all the same places as Janet, but not to his intention. A matchmaking tale with a twist.
Well that is all I can really manage at the moment, however if anyone wants to leave feedback on my introduction, please feel free to! I’ll add excerpts of my writing later.
