Captain Edward SilverSpoons was a rather small and chubby pirate, with rosy red cheeks, a scruffy black beard, and big blue-green eyes, very much like the colour of the ocean. As a pirate should, he was always wearing his black and blue pirate outfit, his large black pirate hat and of course like most other pirates, Captain SilverSpoons had a wooden peg for a leg. Every now and then he would hobble and wobble as he walked, and when his boat The Jolly Teapot was sailing on rougher waters he would totter from side to side trying to keep his balance. One thing that was very noticeable about the captain was that he had two silver teaspoons which he wore as earrings, and that is how he got his name.
It was a bright sunny morning when Captain SilverSpoons awoke from his restful sleep; he stretched out his arms and looked out over the lagoon at Catbell Bay where he had anchored the Jolly teapot. He hadn’t had much to do recently so he wondered what he could do today. As he was staring across the water, he noticed a small creature flying towards him. With a squint and a rub at his eyes he soon picked out the familiar sight of his parrot Trevor, a dark blue and golden macaw. However there was something very unusual, it seemed that Trevor was carrying something in his talons, something that looked like a glass bottle with a note inside.
Trevor flew towards the side of The Jolly Teapot, landed and squawked.
“What is that you’ve got there?” asked the Captain, “looks like a bottle with a note inside. Shall we open it and have a look?”
Trevor squawked and fluttered his wings, suggesting that they open the bottle, who knows what the note would say.
“Well ok then let’s have a look” Captain SilverSpoons picked up the bottle, unplugged the cork and pulled out the parchment note inside. “I wonder what this could be?” he asked as he unravelled it. “Oh my, my” he exclaimed.
Trevor started flapping his wings with excitement!
“Looks like we have found ourselves a treasure map Trevor, and by the looks of things it leads to RattleBone Cave just around in the next bay!”
With the thrill of finding a treasure map in the old glass bottle, Trevor flew up into the air and started flying around the masts of the Jolly Teapot. Captain SilverSpoons, chuckled “Shall we set sail then, can’t have that treasure waiting forever now can we?” He hobbled towards the bridge to set sail for RattleBone Cave.
“Prepare to set sail” Trevor squawked.
Fortunately the wind was in their favour, so it didn’t take long to get moving in the right direction.
“Yo ho Trevor, not long till we’ll be searching the cave for treasures galore”
Trevor soared down to Silverspoon’s shoulder squawking as he landed. “Treasures for all”
It wasn’t long before they saw the entrance to RattleBone Cave, “We’ll set the anchor here Trevor and take the raft in, the water will be deep enough to get us far enough into the cave, but then we’ll have to walk the rest.”
“Torches” Trevor Squawked.
“Thanks for the reminder, wouldn’t be much use trying to find treasure in the dark.” Captain SilverSpoons said as he headed towards the raft.
RattleBone Cave was dark, damp and rather cold, but the excitement of finding the treasure was more than enough to keep the Captain and Trevor continuing with their search. Soon enough the water became too shallow for the raft so they started to walk being careful where they stepped their torch lighting the way.
Suddenly there was a strange rattling noise from behind; Trevor started flapping in a flutter.
“Now, now Trevor there is nothing to worry about, it’s probably just some rats scurrying along, now four more steps forward then we will be turning right for a further eight steps” Captain SilverSpoons stated looking at the map.
The rattling noise seemed to get closer as they took the right passage and walked eight steps forwards.
“I’m starting to think that the noise isn’t rats after all Trevor, I wonder what it could be. Let’s walk a little faster and find this treasure.” The Captain said. The map was directing them towards what seemed like a centre chamber.
They heard the rattling noise again followed by a ghostly voice “Leave this place Captain, this treasure is not for you as it is mine alone”
“Sounds like we are being followed after all, but look there’s the treasure just ahead.”
“Get the treasure and go” Trevor called as he flew in circles above Captain SilverSpoons.
“Leave, or you will suffer the consequences” the ghostly voice called out.
“Oh then I guess we will just have to leave then, won’t we Trevor?” Captain SilverSpoons said sarcastically with a laugh as he hobbled towards the centre of the Chamber.
As the captain approached the centre of the chamber he finally saw the treasure, a golden goblet with various colourful gems. The captain reached out to take the goblet, but as soon as he did the rattling noise surrounded the chamber.
All of a sudden several figures jumped out from the shadows, causing the captain to spin round on his feet and throw the golden goblet up into the air. There was a gasp throughout the chamber as the goblet spun through the air. Trevor was quick to react and managed to grasp hold of it just before it hit the ground. The captain regained his senses, squinted and blinked a few times he was starting to make out who was hiding in the chamber, shinning the torch in the direction of the figures. Captain Silverspoons noticed the very familiar face of a very well known character The Big Chief of the Tribiler tribe.
“Ho ho” the chief chuckled as he saw the expression on Captain SilverSpoons face, thought we’d give you a little bit of a treasure hunt and a surprise.
The Captain laughed along at the ploy the Tribilers had come up with. “I’m still keeping the goblet,” SilverSpoons said as he joined The Big Chief as they walked out of the Cave.
